There are Automatic Electronic Defibrillators (AEDs) available now that anyone can train to use. The class is no longer than a basic CPR course. The Army requires them in all buildings (I don't know about the rest of the Armed Forces), and a certain number of occupants of each building must be trained to use them. They are the "patch" style, or at least those that I have trained on are, and there is really no "user" control over them, they are self-calibrated and self-operating. You just clear the body and hit a button.

yeah they put those on the fire trucks for when no medics were on it. that way the emts could use them. they are also starting to put them in malls, schools, airports and other public places as the most important thing in getting someone back in a full arrest (all be it if they are in shockable rates) is to get the shock to convert it before the cpr. they are fool proof. so yep, youre correct dude. nice to see that people are noticing them. lives can be saved if people use them.

yeah, funny thing is nurses cant even preform that duty as far as I know. Docs or medics. She must watch too much ER or something! Believe me, I've smoked a couple of patients in all my years of doing it. sometimes just doing things so fast you didnt get enough gel on the paddles. was a lot better when they went to patches.
